University Scholar Plans of Study
All University Scholars must complete and file a plan of study with the Honors Program office. The preliminary plan of study is to be filed after the student is selected as a University Scholar and before the proposed plan is underway. Once a plan has been approved, revisions to a plan of study must be documented on a revised plan of study form and submitted to the Honors Program office with the following approval:

Reason for Change to US Plan of Study: Approval Required, Submit revised Plan of Study
Time conflict with substitution of course of equal or greater rigor and relevance toward plan of study Student's US Advisory Committee
Course not offered with substitution of course of equal or greater rigor and relevance toward plan of study Student's US Advisory Committee
Major/School requirement substitution (not General Education Requirement) All majors except EG: Student's US Advisory Committee
School of EG: Adv, Dept. Head, Dean (on-line department plan of study form)
General Education Requirement (GER) replaced with course from same GER Student's US Advisory Committee
GER Substitution US Committee

A final plan of study must be completed and submitted to the Honors Program Office for approval by the Board of Associate Directors prior to the final semester. Failure to adhere to this policy may result in the forfeit of University Scholar Privileges.

Completion of Plan of Study Forms:
All courses used toward the University Scholar Progam must be listed on the form.

  • Revised plans must have detailed explanations of any changes
  • The request to waive or make substitutions for any requirements must be detailed on the form. Requirements are normally only waived under extenuating circumstances.
  • All Advisory Committee members must sign the forms before the plan is submitted for approval of the Board of Associate Directors
  • If also graduating as an Honors Scholar, the courses to be used toward Honors Scholar requirements (at least 12 credits) should be marked with an "H"
  • Courses may only be used toward one degree. They may not count toward a Bachelor's degree and a Master's degree
  • Courses to be used toward a Master's Degree should be marked with an "M". These courses can not count in the total number of credits toward the Bachelor's degree
  • Students pursuing simultaneous Bachelor's and Master's degrees must apply to the Graduate School early in their final semester.

Approved University Scholar Plans of Study
All Advisory Committee members must sign the plan of study form.

  • Approved plans of study will be sent to the student and the chairperson of the Advisory Committee
  • The signature of the Director of the Honors Program on the Plan of Study form indicates approval by the Board of Associate Directors
